Team INDROVE wins 2nd prize at NITTTR Kolkata's AI Leadership Summit 2026
At the Artificial Intelligence Leadership Summit (AILS) 2026 – Shaping Intelligent Futures, organised by the National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research (NITTTR), Kolkata under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, our Mechanical Engineering team INDROVE — Sahanowaz Hossain Molla, Kishor Halder, Arijit Naskar, Dipak Kumar Patra, Sandip Bhandari, Mou Rani Hutait and Arpan Dolui, mentored by Dr. Somnath Das and Dr. Nilanjan Roy — secured 2nd prize among 40+ innovative projects presented by institutions from across the country, finishing behind Uluberia Government Polytechnic and ahead of IEM and Jeppiaar University, Chennai.

Sarnick Chakraborty co-authors and presents research paper at ICAI'26, Las Vegas
Sarnick Chakraborty (Computer Science & Engineering) co-authored and presented the peer-reviewed paper “Vaibhav: Fine-Grained Energy Management of Data Center Servers Using PowerNap” at the 28th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ICAI'26), held as part of the 2026 World Congress in Computer Science, Computer Engineering & Applied Computing (CSCE'26) in Las Vegas, USA (20–23 July 2026) — one of the world's largest annual gatherings in computer science, AI and applied computing. Peer-reviewed at about a 19% acceptance rate, the paper will be published by Springer Nature in proceedings indexed in Scopus, DBLP, ACM Digital Library and Web of Science, among others. Guided by mentors Dr. Tathagata Bhattacharya (Auburn University at Montgomery, USA) and Dr. Koushikk Bhattacharyya, Sarnick presented via an officially submitted recorded video and was awarded a Presentation Certificate by the conference organisers.

Team INDROVE wins 2nd place at Jadavpur University's business pitch competition
At “I'm Out!! (Shark Tank),” a business pitching competition organised by the Institute of Business Management (IBM), Jadavpur University as part of its annual cultural fest, our team — Mou Rani Hutait, Sahanowaz Hossain Molla, Sandip Bhandari and Arpan Dolui — pitched INDROVE, their robotic system for pipeline inspection and blockage removal, before a panel of judges and secured second place.

Top 100 nationally — Think for Bharat 1.0
Mou Rani Hutait, Sahanowaz Hossain Molla, Kishor Halder and Sandip Bhandari secured a place in the Top 100 nationally in Think for Bharat 1.0, a national-level innovation challenge that celebrates bold ideas and empowers the next generation of change makers — out of 2,000+ registrations, organised by Code Capital & Coffee, with the Presentation Round held on 15 July 2026.
Team INDROVE's national streak — a dozen finals and wins beyond Shark Tank
Beyond their Shark Tank and OMTECH Hackathon wins above, the Mechanical Engineering team behind INDROVE — Sahanowaz Hossain Molla, Kishor Halder, Arijit Naskar, Dipak Kumar Patra, Sandip Bhandari, Mou Rani Hutait and Arpan Dolui, mentored by Dr. Somnath Das and Dr. Nilanjan Roy — reached the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2025 (Hardware) and went on a run of national recognitions: selected for pitching at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2026 and She Innovative 2026 (both at IIT Kharagpur) and Women Startup Meet 6.0 (Parul University); Grand Finalists at the Bharat Startup Grand Challenge (Sister Nivedita University), Viswanova 2026 (MIT WPU Pune) and Biznez Plan 2026 (Jadavpur University); winners at Startup Expo @ Dakshh 2026 (HITK) and Neonate 2026 (GKCEM); Top 6 nationally at Startup Showdown 2026 (IIT Patna); Top 15 finalists at Bharat Tech 2026 (SVIET Chandigarh); a Panelist's Choice Award at Pragati 2026 (Jadavpur University); and participants at the 9th ICCPDM 2026 (HITK).

Patent No. 590190, granted by the Patent Office, Government of India, to Dr. Somnath Das (Mechanical Engineering faculty) together with alumni Mriganka Maity and Joydip Kumar Mondal (ME, Batch 2019–2020) — student research carried all the way through to a granted national patent.

Team INDROVE wins Ovaku Engineering Excellence Award
At the 24-hour OMTECH Hackathon 2026 (22–23 May), hosted by OmDayal Group of Institutions, our Mechanical Engineering team INDROVE — Mou Rani Hutait, Sahanowaz Hossain Molla, Sandip Bhandari and Arpan Dolui — won “Best Futuristic Thinking.” The hackathon was primarily CSE-focused, which made the recognition stand out even more.

CSE team reaches the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2025 (Software)
Soukarsha Dutta, SK Sania Aktari, Yajdin Mallick, Sayan Maiti, Raj Nandini and Rounak Kundu (Computer Science & Engineering) reached the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2025 in the Software category, under the guidance of Mrs. Suhana Parvin and Ms. Priyanka Santra.
Saugata Samanta & Najmul Islam Molla represent SVIST at IIT Kharagpur's GES and Techathon 3.0
Saugata Samanta and Najmul Islam Molla (Electrical Engineering) were Runner-Up at Techathon 3.0 — selected among 25 finalists from 256 participants — and also won 1st Prize at an Innovation Competition and 2nd Prize at TechZeathon. They went on to represent SVIST at IIT Kharagpur's Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) and Techathon 3.0.
Sujan Poddar & Dibyendu Mondal earn an Honourable Mention at an Inter-College Poster Competition
Sujan Poddar and Dibyendu Mondal (Electronics & Communication Engineering) received the Honourable Mention award for their project presentation at the Inter College Innovative Project Poster Competition 2025, organised by the Department of MCA, Techno International New Town, in collaboration with the IEEE Young Professionals Kolkata Section and the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Kolkata Chapter.
Krishna Autar Mahato — multiple district and state-level medals in athletics
Krishna Autar Mahato (Electrical Engineering) won district-level gold and silver medals in the 100m and 200m sprints across 2023, 2024 and 2025, and placed 4th and 5th at the state-level meet.
Beyond individual wins
Students in research
More than 100 journal papers, 13 Indian patents, 2 international patents, and more than 50 national/international conference papers and book chapters have been published by SVIST in the last five years — and students have taken active part in that output, co-authoring journal and conference papers and joining patent filings alongside faculty. Some faculty members and students have also received best paper awards at inter-college research-article competitions organised by other colleges.
